The youth section began in 2010 after the Young Leaders' workshop in Kyoto. The section aims at developing leadership among the younger Asian urologists and developing programs to cater to their academic and professional needs. It aims at building a network of resource persons who could help spread awareness and programs of the UAA within their regions.
The focus area of the section is to conduct educational programs covering the areas of (1) better scientific writing methods and getting manuscripts published, (2) Study designs and conducting a good study and (3) Ethics of medical writing and publishing. It aims at implementing these objectives through the conduct of short term training workshops involving small focus groups for periods ranging from 3 hours to 2 days in association with national or regional conferences of member nations or regional organizations. It also aims at holding stand-alone workshops at a later date.
A basic outline of curriculum has been pre-defined for use at each meeting. Coordinators of regional UAA meetings are contacted with the offer to hold this workshop with their meetings. The local organizers are requested to provide space and hospitality while the UAA may underwrite additional expenses such as the travel costs of its nominee faculty. The nominated foreign faculty of the UAA may be requested by the conference organizers for additional activities during their conference.
The first UAA Youth Section Session titled Instructional Course in Medical Writing & Research was held at the 6th Asian Urology Symposium on 18th of November 2011 in Colombo. The session was initially planned for 2 hours but the enthusiastic response from the attendees resulted in its continuing for 4-hours.
The second UAA Youth Section Session: Publishing your article was held in conjunction with the Asian Endourology Meeting in Kathmandu, Nepal on 26th November, 2011. The speakers for this program included Dr Nobuo Shinohara who was sponsored by the Japan Urological Association.
